Vice Governor Rano Pushes for Beritajakarta’s OTT Expansion

Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno expressed his hope that Beritajakarta, as the Jakarta government's official channel, can evolve to produce various digital products via over-the-top (OTT) services.

Rano expressed this hope while attending the Beritajakarta's 26th-anniversary celebration at the Multimedia Room, 2nd Floor of Block F, Jakarta City Hall yesterday.

"Perhaps initially it only focused on news. However, if we want to enter the world of OTT now, it must evolve," he expressed.

Rano Appeals Beritajakarta to Develop Digital Potential

He explained that OTT services are not limited to news but also include talk shows, podcasts, and various other entertainment products. Hence, he suggested that the branding of "Beritajakarta" needs to be reviewed to see if it remains relevant.

There is a vast opportunity for Beritajakarta to expand into OTT platforms, especially since the content produced by Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik) holds significant potential.

Moreover, his team has planned various upcoming events, such as Jak Festival and the Youth Talent Festival. These events present a significant opportunity as they require dedicated media coverage.

Rano stated that these various advantages and opportunities led to Jakarta becoming the only province in Indonesia invited to the Asia Pacific Video Operators Summit (APOS) 2026 in Nusa Dua, Bali.

"Various OTT platforms, such as Netflix, have already recognized Jakarta’s development and potential," he remarked.

As such, he hopes Beritajakarta will bolster its capacity in both human resources and infrastructure.

He prompted the Head of Diskominfotik to upgrade staff skills through workshops and invest in new equipment to improve production quality.

These upgrades are expected to ramp up the agency's capacity and service delivery. By so, the content produced by Jakarta Diskominfotik will hold great potential to be elevated into a wider framework.

"The reassignment of Mrs. Dewi from the Cooperation Bureau to Diskominfotik was intentional; we have a clear objective. This is a progressive step if we aim to boost regional income from the entertainment industry," he concluded.
